2026 BRITISH FULL POWER POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP

The season is done! The biggest dual powerlifting federation in the UK has finished the season on a high!

The final event of the 25/26 season is finished, equipment has been returned and the chalk dust is slowly settling.

And what a show it was!

A/BPU British has for many years been a one-of-a-kind event in UK. Seven days of plates clanking, muscles straining and emotions running high, a season’s finisher like no other!

More than 400 qualified competitors turned up for the a week-long fiesta of high-level, exciting, fun-filled lifting, and it will take a few days before all those who partook can return to normality.

When an event of that scale runs smoothly for a full week you know the professionalism of the team has to be on a different level. People who willingly give away their free time to take on high-stress, high workload responsibilities for a full week are a different breed.

From the slickest weigh-ins anywhere to a fast and safe platform to well organised referees group to the people on table who keep everything running smoothly, the federation as well as the lifters owe a great big thank you!

Next, we must mention the lifters: their conduct for this week was a delight! With the stress of competing and trying to perform your utter best one is not always on his/her best behaviour, and sometimes in a rush one can forget simple things (like deadlift socks and rack heights!) or, even worse, forget their manners.

But the past week saw almost none of that. Lifters were informed, capable and polite, which made running the event very enjoyable.

Manners and professional conduct aside, the MOST important thing, the LIFTS were amazing! There were some truly memorable moments, from personal bests, British records and All time World Records to head-to-head battles with the last deadlifts hanging the fate of medals in balance.

New champions crowned, reigning ones holding on to their own, and some lifters that came from nowhere to push the favourites aside. In a word, the best this sport can offer!

For now, we congratulate all who were involved!

Whether it was the meet of your life, or a disappointing shambles, we salute you. You qualified, showed up, and fought.

If it went well, keep up the good work.

If it didn’t, keep pushing to do better!

For those who qualified we shall see you at the World Championships in 2 months.

For those who did not make it this time, we shall see you in the next season!
